The landing gear of a Delta flight caught fire at JFK Airport, forcing officials to abort takeoff and evacuate the plane Monday night.
Delta spokesperson Adrian Gee confirmed the incident, noting that an "airspeed indication issue" halted takeoff of flight 420 from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana, USA Today noted.
The brakes on the Boeing 747 overheated upon landing and the 205 passengers were evacuated as fire and rescue officials tended the scene.
Flames can be seen engulfing the bottom of the plane in video footage shared to Twitter by the Port Authority.
In a separate video, firefighters are seen quelling the flames on the runway.
A spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said the blaze was extinguished on the taxiway, Fox News reported.
There were no reported injuries and the incident did not impact other operational flights.
Passengers were provided with hotel accommodation and meal vouchers by the airline, and were flown out Tuesday, USA Today reported.
Delta has faced its share of technical difficulties over the months, most recently when its systems crashed, forcing the airline to ground domestic services for an hour.
The halt followed breakdowns in the past two years that have forced Delta to shut its operations during heavy travel periods.
