The Kroger Co. has announced a bottled water recall of its Comforts For Baby Purified Water with Fluoride Added after reports of mold in some of the products.

Kroger has pulled the product off its shelves and is recalling six months of Comforts for Baby, with expiration dates of April 26, 2018, to Oct. 10, 2018, CNN reported. The product was also sent to affiliate stores like Food 4 Less, Jay C Food Plus, Payless Super Market and Ruler stores.

"While no health risk is associated with this product, out of an abundance of caution, we removed this product from sale several weeks ago," Kroger spokeswoman Kristal Howard told USA Today.

Kroger said in a statement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that it issued the recall after receiving complaints about the mold. The statement said the product is sold in one-gallon, clear containers.

"Testing by Kroger has identified the mold as Talaromyces penicillium," the FDA statement said. "The water is sold in clear containers, but the mold may not be visible with the naked eye."

The FDA statement added that infants who have HIV or other immune compromising conditions may be at risk.

The statement said that the FDA was also issuing a consumer alert to reach parents and caregivers about the recall. The statement added that the product may have been sent to stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

USA Today reported that breathing in or touching mold or mold spores may cause allergic reactions, like sneezing, runny nose, red eyes and skin rashes, and trigger asthma attacks in asthmatics who are allergic to mold.

Kroger, based in Cincinnati, is one of the United States' largest supermarkets with more than 2,500 stores under more than two dozen different banners, according to NNDB.com. USA Today reported that Kroger stock was down seven cents at $26.80 before the US. stock market opened on Tuesday.
