An Ohio kindergartner was sent home from school last week after administrators said his spiky mohawk haircut was disruptive and violated the district's dress code.
Ethan Clos, 5, thought the mohawk was "cool" when he got it during spring break the week before, and so did his classmates at Reid Elementary School in Springfield, Ohio.
"They seen his hair like it was. All the little kids were going over and feeling on it and everything," Keshia Castle, Ethan's mom, told
WHIOTV.com.

But Clark Shawnee School District officials claimed the haircut was disruptive because the teacher couldn’t get the attention of the class. Superintendent Gregg Morris also said the style was a violation of the school's dress code.
"Our policy clearly states that any dress or grooming which is disruptive or distracting to the educational process is not acceptable," Morris told WHIOTV.com. "In this particular case, the student’s hairstyle did provide disruption to the classroom."
Clos was sent home and told he could not return to school until the mohawk was gone. Clos' family is frustrated because his suspension comes after Tim Seelig, a volunteer football coach at the local high school, was praised and profiled in the Springfield News-Sun for sporting a blond mohawk in 2011 and 2009 to motivate the team. But Morris says the two circumstances are different.
"One involved an extracurricular spirit initiative designed to motivate our kids in the football playoffs a year ago. Classrooms were not disrupted. The other poses a disruption to the learning environment as well as violates the student dress code," Morris said.
Clos reportedly returned to school Monday with a shaved head, according to WHIOTV.com.
This isn’t the first time a student's hair has led to a suspension. In February,
a girl was banned from her Utah middle school because her hair was dyed what administrators said was an "unnatural" color.
