Kim Jong Un's top aide may have been executed by a North Korean death squad after being accused of bribery, several news sites are saying citing recent reports.

Hwang Pyong-so, a vice marshal who held the most senior position in North Korea’s military, has not been seen in public since Oct. 13, spurring rumors he may have been executed, Fox News reported on Thursday.

The Daily Mail and The Telegraph reported basically the same thing.

Kim has been known to get rid of his enemies inside North Korea through various methods, including shooting them with anti-aircraft weaponry at a close range and feeding them to a pack of ravenous dogs, Fox News said.

The Yonhap News Agency reported in November that Hwang and Kim Won-hong, Hwang deputy chief, were "punished" after an inspection of a key military organ because of its "impure attitude."

"We have been watching the situation as we have gathered such intelligence (on the punishment)," South Korean legislator Kim Byung-kee, of the ruling Democratic Party, said speaking for the country's spy agency, according to Yonhap.

Kim told the news agency that they were still trying to "to figure it out" as to what kind of punishment the two military officials received.

Yonhap said Hwang rose to prominence in 2014 as chief of the North Korea military's General Political Bureau. The bureau is believed to be an influential military institution in the reclusive communist country, guiding personnel management of other military branches such as the Ministry of People's Armed Forces.

South Korea's National Intelligence Service said North Korea has been trying to determine the impact new international sanctions is having on public sentiment, which has been tightened since the North's sixth nuclear test on Sept. 3, Yonhap reported.
