Keith Olbermann Returns to Television via Sports Reporting on TBS

Keith Olbermann, the former Current TV host who was fired last March, will be returning to television in October via TBS, where he will be covering Major League Baseball during the postseason.

Olbermann was a sports broadcaster for nearly two decades, from 1992 to 1010, having been a commentator on ESPN's SportsCenter and NBC's Football Night in America before venturing into the realm of political commentary.

Among news and political junkies, Olbermann is most well-known for his canceled MSNBC show, "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," where he became one of the liberal-leaning network's most outspoken progressive voices.

The TBS deal will see Olbermann hosting alongside Dennis Eckersley and possibly a second analyst at Turner Broadcasting's Atlanta-based studio, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"It’s well known that Keith is a fan of the game and when you combine that with his studio experience, keen insight and passion for baseball and its history, he’ll add a new dimension to our MLB postseason studio shows," David Levy, president of sales, distribution and sports at Turner Broadcasting, said in a statement. "We're excited to have him join Dennis in studio, and look forward to Keith sharing his in-depth knowledge of the game, MLB teams and players with our viewers for three great weeks in October."

In March, the dedicated New York Yankees fan settled a much-publicized $50,000 million lawsuit against Current TV and its co-founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt for having fired him one year into his five-year contract.

In the suit, Olbermann claimed his firing was a breach of contract and the network had forced him to work in substandard conditions and sought to smear him in the press, Forbes magazine reported.

The original complaint also described Hyatt and Gore as "dilettantes portraying entertainment executives."

In March, Deadline Hollywood reported that Olbermann walked away with a "significant payout," however the exact amount was not specified.

Under the current arrangement with TBS, Olbermann will be under the same corporate roof as Jeff Zucker, the current president of CNN Worldwide.

When he was CEO of NBC Universal, Zucker had reportedly been behind Olbermann's removal from NBC's Sunday Night Football preshow.
