Kayla Chadwick’s remains were identified Wednesday, after the Colorado teen went missing in March 2012. Her remains were discovered last week near the Fort Morgan, Colo. airport.

Chadwick disappeared March 28, 2012, after arguing with her boyfriend, Ivan Torralba, 19.

Her remains were found June 27 just east of the airport, law enforcement officials told the Denver Post.

"We haven't been able to determine cause or manner of death," Jared Crone, of the Fort Morgan Police Department, said. "There is still a lot of follow-up to do before we can draw any conclusions."

Police have not named a suspect or person of interest in the case.

Torralba has been in jail since June 18 for a bond violation for allegedly possessing marijuana, the Denver Post reported.

Authorities originally arrested Torralba Nov. 8 for allegedly tampering with physical evidence and trying to influence a public servant in connection with the investigation. He was later released on $250,000 bond.

On the same day as Torralba's bond violation arrest, his mother, Lucila Torralba, 46, was indicted on counts of perjury and attempts to influence a public figure.

Kayla Chadwick's aunt, Chris Ferguson, told the local Denver station KMGH-TV that her niece wanted to be a nurse and the family believed Ivan Torralba was behind her death.

"She was murdered and we’re seeing justice," Ferguson said. "Biggest thing (Kayla) did wrong was love the wrong person."

Crone said detectives received new leads on Chadwick’s case two weeks ago, which led to their discovery last week, adding that her case has consumed the department since she went missing.

"With the 22 years I've been here, we haven't had anything this extensive ... any missing persons case for this long ... it's very unusual," Crone told KMGH-TV. "I can't remember the last homicide we had. I believe it was October 2010 was the last one we had."
