Kathrin Goldbach, lover of Germanwings co-pilot Andreas Lubitz who crashed his plane in the French Alps last week, is pregnant with his child.
The New York Post reported Sunday that Goldback, 26, told Andreas Lubitz that she was moving out their shared apartment in Dusseldorf, Germany, last Monday, the day before he downed the plane — killing all 150 people on board.
Two weeks before that, Germany newspaper Bild reported that Goldbach, a school teacher, had told her students she was pregnant, and planned to marry Lubitz.
The pair had lived together for at least four years, and had been dating since they met as teenagers while working at a Burger King in his hometown of Montabaur. Their relationship had been quite rocky over the years, however.
In the two weeks preceding Lubitz's decision to crash his plane, Goldbach told him she was moving out, and he spent thousands of dollars one two Audi cars in a bid to keep her. One of the cars arrived to their home just days before the crash.
Lubitz was apparently hiding a medical condition from his employer, Lufthansa, and had been issued a sick note by a doctor excusing him from work on the fateful day. It was later found by investigators in his apartment torn up. They also found a "small mountain" of pills in his apartment.
Friends of Goldbach's said that she was leaving him because she could no longer handle his erratic and controlling behavior.
"He tried to order her what to wear, what men she could speak to, even the length of her skirt," a friend said. "He was a control freak of the highest order."
