Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm Story Group president, told the weekly "Star Wars Show" web series that Rey, Finn, Poe and BB-8 may be included in films beyond "Episode IX."

"We're sitting down now, we're talking about the next 10 years of 'Star Wars' stories, and we're looking at, narratively, where that might go," Kennedy said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Future stories beyond 'Episode IX' with these new characters: Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8—but we're also looking at working with people who are interested in coming into the 'Star Wars' world and taking us places we haven't been yet. That's exciting too, because it's a vast galaxy far, far away."

One character who wasn't mentioned as appearing beyond the current trilogy was Kylo Ren, the Vader-esque villain, although that doesn't mean he won't be included, THR reported.

Episode VIII, "The Last Jedi," will hit theaters on Dec. 15, but "Episode IX" is still a few years away, Cinema Blend noted, suggesting that Disney may then try another trilogy (contrary to the way George Lucas always envisioned the story), or may give stand-alone vehicles to some characters as it has done with the upcoming "Solo" and a planned Boba Fett stand-alone not yet in production.

Not everyone on Twitter thought that endless new "Star Wars" material would be a good thing.
