Kate Gosselin Slanted-Eye Photo Comes Back To Haunt Her Online

By    |   Tuesday, 25 June 2013 12:19 PM EDT

A photo of Kate Gosselin making an apparently racist gesture has sparked controversy on Twitter and caused the former TLC reality star to speak out in her own defense.

Twitter user "Katie Deen" tweeted a picture of Gosselin Sunday wearing a geisha headpiece and using her fingers to slant her eyes, a gesture commonly meant to mock Asians. It's not clear how "Katie Deen" obtained the picture but it was the only tweet posted to the account.

Author Robert Hoffman referenced the photo last year in his e-book, "Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled The World."

"I'll bet that Kate wishes that she hadn’t been photographed making a 'slant-eye' pose with a big smile on her face though," Hoffman wrote, according to RadarOnline.com."Kate Gosselin has eight part-Asian children. Her ex-husband Jon is half Korean. Is it OK for Kate to do something like that? Ask Miley Cyrus. She did the same thing in February of 2009 and it didn't go over to well with the public."

The book was pulled from Amazon after just two days though, after Hoffman was accused of illegally obtaining the information used in the book. Gosselin told RadarOnline in April that she plans to move forward with a lawsuit against Hoffman and her ex-husband Jon Gosselin, saying the two conspired to plant negative information about her in the media and stole the information from her personal computer.

Kate Gosselin posted a lengthy blog post Tuesday explaining that the slanted-eye photo was taken years ago when she and Jon were goofing around.

"It’s normal to talk about and even 'exaggerate' the feature differences between family members of a biracial family as they are noticed by curious growing children within the family," Gosselin wrote on her blog. "These types of discoveries and at home discussions are a normal part of being a loving accepting biracial family and it does not make any of us prejudice! I married an Asian. I have eight biracial children therefore I'm quite certain that I'm the last person that could be called a racist."

The TLC reality series "Jon & Kate Plus 8" followed Jon and Kate Gosselin as they raised their eight children — twins and sextuplets — but it ended before the couple divorced in 2009.
