Kanye West didn’t vote, but if he had voted, he would have picked Donald Trump, the hip-hop musician said during a concert in California Thursday night.
“I told y’all I didn’t vote, right?” West asked the crowd of concertgoers, according to Us Weekly. “What I didn’t tell you … if I were to have voted I would have voted on Trump.”
West, who has said he plans to run for president himself in 2020, expressed admiration for Donald Trump, calling him a “genius” and telling the crowd during the concert in San Jose that he “loved” Trump’s approach, Us Weekly reported.
West’s political comments were met with mostly boos and a few cheers as he interrupted his show multiple times to continue to comment on the election and offer his political views. At one point, he addressed racism, yelling out, “Specifically to black people, stop focusing on racism. This world is racist, OK,” Us Weekly reported.
The hip hop star went on to say that he’s “glad Trump inspired racists to reveal themselves” and that he’s still thinking about running for president in 2020. He also said that music has power to unify the country after a polarizing event like the election, USA Today reported.
In the video for West’s song “Famous,” West is portrayed in bed with numerous celebrity lookalikes, one of whom is Donald Trump, CNN reported.
Trump said prior to the election that he knew West supported him: “He goes around saying Trump is my all-time hero, He says it to everybody. So Kanye West, I love him,” USA Today reported.
