Rasmussen: Kaine Inches Ahead in Va. Senate Race

By    |   Tuesday, 05 June 2012 10:18 AM EDT

Democrat Tim Kaine has edged ahead for the first time since last fall in the U.S. Senate race in Virginia just before next week’s Republican primary brings the contest into clearer focus.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Virginia voters finds the former Democrat governor with 46 percent to Republican George Allen’s 44 percent. Allen is also a former Virginia governor and senator.

The poll also shows that 3 percent like some other candidate in the race, and 6 percent remain undecided.

The survey of 500 likely Virginia voters was conducted on June 3 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.

Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.
