Millions of viewers watched NBC’s “The Sound of Music Live” last week, but Julie Andrews didn’t have time to tune in.

“Alas, I did not (see it). I had a speaking engagement and I couldn't. But my kids did record it. I'll get around to it,” Andrews told The Associated Press.

The star did make it to Monday’s premiere of “Saving Mr. Banks,” the story of how the author of “Mary Poppins” fought Walt Disney over the making of the popular movie.

More than 18 million people watched NBC’s musical production, and that kind of phenomenal response has execs looking for a possible follow-up to the live event, The New York Times said.

Robert Greenblatt, chair of the entertainment division, told the Times that executive producers are looking for a live production for next year. The criteria is family-friendly classics with songs that people know.

“All weekend, people have been calling us and emailing us,” Greenblatt told the Times. “Rights holders of musicals have said, ‘Please do one of our shows.’ We’re excited to try it again.”

The Times said NBC may even take on the challenge more than once, making live musicals an annual occurrence.

“There’s enough to do a handful of these over the next years, if we keep increasing the learning curve,” Greenblatt told the Times. “There may be a little bit of a phenomenon to the first one of these. Who knows what happens Year 2, 3 or 4. But you’ve got to have events. I think we could do this again — and again and again.”

NBC gave some credit for the show’s success, which delivered ratings three times what they estimated, to Carrie Underwood taking on Andrews’ role of Maria. The country music star’s fan base turned on the TV to watch.
