Three judges involved in a drunken brawl in Indiana have been suspended without pay for their "embarrassing" actions that "discredited the entire Indiana judiciary."

The court issued an opinion Tuesday announcing that judges Bradley Jacobs, Andrew Adams and Sabrina Bell had committed judicial misconduct for the fight that took place in May outside a White Castle restaurant.

The three judges had been drinking at a local bar that night when a car drove past. The two occupants, Alfredo Vazquez and Brandon Kaiser, "shouted something out the window" at which point Bell "extended her middle finger to Vazquez and Kaiser, who then pulled into the parking lot and exited the vehicle," per the opinion.

A heated verbal exchange ensued, "with all participants yelling, using profanity, and making dismissive, mocking, or insolent gestures toward the other group."

Things turned violent when a scuffle broke out between Jacobs and Kaiser. Adams joined in and began kicking Kaiser who then pulled out a gun and shot Adams and Jacobs.

The two shot judges had to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery while Bell remained at the scene to speak to police and give a recorded statement.

Upon admission into hospital, Adams’s blood alcohol level was 0.157 and Jacobs’s was 0.13. Bell’s blood alcohol level was not tested, "but she was intoxicated enough that she lacks any memory of the incident," according to the opinion.

Adams was criminally charged and on Sept. 9 pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery resulting in bodily injury. He was sentenced to 365 days in jail of which 363 days were suspended. Furthermore, he was suspended for 60 days without pay while Jacobs and Bell were suspended for 30 days without pay.
