The National Enquirer apologized Wednesday to "Judge Judy" star Judy Sheindlin for a number of published falsehoods.

The Enquirer originally wrote articles claiming Sheindlin was battling Alzheimer's disease and "brain disease," that she had cheated on her husband, and that her daughter refused to serve on a jury and could face jail time.

"None of these statements are true, and we unequivocally retract them," the tabloid said Wednesday in an article titled "Apology Regarding Judge Judy And Nicole Sheindlin." (Nicole is the daughter.)

"The National Enquirer, The National Examiner and American Media Inc. sincerely apologize to Judge Judy," the statement continued. "The National Enquirer, The National Examiner and American Media Inc. also sincerely apologize to Nicole, who is a respected attorney and is the CEO of Her Honor Mentoring."

"Judge Judy" has been on the air since 1996 and Sheindlin is one of television's highest-paid stars.
