Jovanna Calzadillas, one of the more than 500 who were injured in the October Las Vegas shooting rampage, went home from the hospital Wednesday after being in a coma and on life support for weeks due to a gunshot wound to her head.

Doctors are calling the 30-year-old wife and mother’s recovery “profound” and “miraculous,” and her husband credits God’s help for the progress she has made since coming out of the coma weeks after the shooting, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Doctors had advised Calzadillas’ husband Frank to take her off life support and asked if he wanted her organs donated, the Journal reported. But he had a dream about his wife in which she “hugged and kissed” him and “said it would be OK.”

Calzadillas doesn’t remember the shooting and has had to have intense physical therapy to regain some use of her legs and one arm. She has some paralysis of her face as well, but can now talk, eat, and drink on her own, and can walk with a walker, the Journal reported.

At a press conference prior to her release from Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Calzadillas spoke to reporters and said she got better for her children and herself.

“I will not quit on them and I will not quit on myself,” she told reporters. “Even though I will not be the same old Jovanna, I will come back stronger. And I have one last thing to say: Si, se puede (Yes, we can).”

She also joked that she can boss her husband around and “smack him” with her cane now that she’s home.
