Jordan Kahana has taken two puppies he rescued in the Arizona desert on more than 30,000 miles of road trips with him since he adopted them 13 months ago.
Kahana was driving from Sedona, Arizona, to the Grand Canyon when he found the puppies on the side of the road and decided to take them to the veterinarian, Today reported. By the time the abandoned pups had recovered from dehydration, he decided to adopt them.
He named the girl puppy Sedona because of where he found them, and the boy Zeus because markings on his face looked like a lightning bolt.
Kahana has included the puppies in his plans to travel extensively, and quit his job last year to do so, Today reported. He has traveled more than 30,000 miles to 35 states and Canada with the puppies, and posts videos about his adventures that he calls “pupdates” on YouTube and Instagram. The trio has more than 100,000 followers on the platforms.
Kahana now supports himself by freelancing and sometimes stays with friends when he travels to keep his costs down, Today reported.
Adopting the puppies has changed his life in many ways, including his schedule and the way he plans his trips.
“I was quickly forced to become a morning person,” Kahana told Insider. “The pups, without fail, wake me up around 6:30/7 in the morning to go out for a walk.”
“Not every hike or national park is pet-friendly so navigating locations and plans don’t always go to plan,” he continued. But he loves his new lifestyle and the companionship the dogs provide. “Experiencing new cultures, seeing new sites, and meeting new people is a high that I am always chasing,” he told Insider.
