Johnny Manziel is willing to play in the NFL for free in order to make a comeback, the former Cleveland quarterback said.

Manziel made the offer via a post to Twitter on Wednesday.

"I'll play again for FREE," he said. "It's not about the money it's about getting back to doing what I miss and love."

Once a star football player, Manziel's career careened off track after a series of off-field incidents, including a domestic violence charge, tainted his reputation as an athlete.

He has not played in an NFL game since Week 16 of the 2015 season and was cut from Cleveland after two seasons, but Manziel has been vocal about making a comeback this year, even if it means no set salary.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo confirmed that Manziel was willing to go as far as signing a contract with no guaranteed pay.

"Teams have been informed that Manziel will take zero dollars guaranteed, minimum salary, if need be," Garafolo said, according to Sports Illustrated.

"He's still eligible for the practice squad. He would be open to signing a practice squad contract, staying on a team's practice squad and proving he is in the right mindset throughout this entire NFL season."

Garafolo added that, according to anonymous sources, Manziel had been speaking to various NFL head coaches and there was a "very real possibility" of an NFL comeback, The Washington Post reported.

Manziel has spoken about his turbulent past, claiming to suffer from bipolar disorder and revealing how he had used alcohol to self-medicate.

On Wednesday he opened up about his decisions in a candid interview on "The ThomaHawk Show" by Uninterrupted with Joe Thomas and Andrew Hawkins.

"It's to the point in time where I'm able to look back, reflect, know that it was a mistake, know that I made some really childish, immature decisions," he said, according to CBS News.

"This decision that I made — what a complete lack of respect for guys like Joe T. What a complete lack of respect for an organization that was trying to stick by me even with having a concussion at this point in time. And everything — what a complete selfish decision."
