A man known as "Jogger Joe" was arrested Wednesday and charged with robbery after a video showed him allegedly dismantling a homeless man's makeshift camp near Lake Merritt and throwing some of it into the water in California, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Henry William Sintay, 30, of Oakland, appeared in Alameda County Court Wednesday where he was charged with second-degree robbery and was held in the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, California on bail of $55,000, the Chronicle stated.

Sintay was confronted and filmed by bystanders as he discarded the clothing and possessions of a homeless man near the lake last week telling them that he was just cleaning up heaps of trash, the newspaper wrote.

A day later, Sintay returned to the location and took the phone of a person recording him after wrestling it away, apparently not realizing that the person was also streaming simultaneously on Facebook Live, the Chronicle wrote.

That person, identified by KNTV as Matt Harris, told the television station that he witnessed Sintay throw the man's clothing into the lake and in the garbage can.

The Chronicle wrote that Sintay was filmed last Friday evening and Saturday allegedly throwing away armfuls of clothing and other possessions of a homeless man named Drew who lived beside the lake. Some have since raised money for the homeless man and he was back at the lake, the newspaper said.

One of the videos, made by resident John Harris, has been viewed more than 300,000 times on Facebook.

Sintay' attorney told the Chronicle that her client had tried to help Drew, but the homeless man did not respond and had contacted the police about the man's failing health. The attorney told the newspaper that Sintay saw needles and bottles of urine around Drew's camp, which inspired him to clean up the area.

Nelson, executive director of the social justice organization Presente.org, told the Chronicle that he was happy to hear about Sintay's arrest.

"His arrest was the result of wide-scale community participation, driven by an incredible commitment to the well-being of all of Oakland's residents," Nelson told the Chronicle. "While what happened to me was horrible, it does not begin to compare with the daily mistreatment of our neighbors who are unhoused, homeless, or unsheltered."
