A Los Angeles woman has been charged for the attempted kidnapping of NFL star Joe Montana's 9-month-old granddaughter. Appearing in an LA court on Tuesday, Sodsai Predpring Dalzell, 39, pleaded not guilty to felony counts of attempted kidnapping of a child under 14 and burglary, according to Fox News. She will return to court on Oct. 20.
Dalzell was arrested on Saturday near Montana's Malibu home. According to the NFL Hall of Famer, an unknown woman entered the house and attempted to snatch their grandchild, who was sleeping in a playpen. Montana and his wife, Jennifer, confronted her and after a brief struggle were able to regain control of the baby. Dalzell then fled the scene and was apprehended a few blocks away. She was reportedly being held on $200,000.
Montana tweeted Sunday afternoon, "Thank you to everyone who has reached out. Scary situation, but thankful that everybody is doing well. We appreciate respect for our privacy at this time."
Montana won four Super Bowls and earned the Super Bowl MVP award three times. He played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1979 to1992 and the Kansas City Chiefs from 1993 to 1994.
He and Jennifer Montana share four adult children. It is not clear which of the children is the parent of their granddaughter involved in the attempted kidnapping.
