Jodi Arias: Trial's Blouses, Skirts Swapped for Jumpsuit, Shackles

Jodi Arias arrived in court Thursday wearing a striped prison jumpsuit with shackles in contrast to the blouses and skirts she usually wore during prior court appearances.

The 32-year-old Arias was found guilty of first-degree murder on May 8 in the June 2008 stabbing and shooting death of boyfriend Travis Alexander at his suburban Phoenix home.

Arias' courtroom appearance was so that her attorneys could resolve several issues, though Judge Sherry Stephens did not set a new trial date as to whether Arias should get the death penalty, ABC News reported.

Arias' defense attorneys filed a motion last week requesting that the judge delay the tentative trial date of July 18, claiming they needed more time to schedule witnesses to testify on their client's behalf.

Arias initially said that she wanted to receive the death penalty.

Following her conviction, the 32-year-old murderer told KSAZ-TV in a courthouse interview that "The worst outcome for me would be natural life."

"I don't want to spend the rest of my natural life in one place," Arias told KSAZ-TV. "I'd rather get death than life and that still is true today. I believe death is the ultimate freedom, so I'd rather just have my freedom as soon as I can get it."

Arias appeared to change her mind when she spoke later to the jury prior to their deliberation.

"I thought I'd rather die. But as I stand here now I can't in good conscious ask you to sentence me to death because of them," Arias said pointing to her family in the courtroom, ABC News reported.

During Thursday's hearing, three of the jurors who helped convict Arias on May 8 were present in court.

The jury ruled that Arias was eligible for the death penalty, however failed to reach a consensus on whether Arias should be executed or not.

The new jury, which has yet to be selected, will determine whether Arias should live the remainder of her life behind bars at a women's penitentiary or receive death by lethal injection.

If the jury again is unable to reach a consensus, Arias will automatically get life in prison, according to ABC News.

Arias is presently being housed in Maricopa County jail until she receives her sentence.
