At a question-and-answer session for the new J.K. Rowling movie “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” Rowling announced that instead of three movies for the new spinoff of “Harry Potter” prequels, there are now five movies planned.

The movies, the first of which releases next month, are based on a fictional textbook that was part of the Harry Potter universe of books and movies. J.K. Rowling then wrote the book under the pseudonym Newt Scamander and donated the profits to Comic Relief, according to Wired.

The first movie is set in New York in 1920 when wizard Newt Scamander comes into town and loses some of his fantastic beasts. Rowling is screenwriter for the movies, a new role for her. She reported on Twitter that she is nearly finished scripting the second installment, which is expected to release in November 2018, ABC News reported.

Future installments are reported to detail the feud between the much-loved Dumbledore and wizardly frenemy Gellert Grindelwald that led to a duel in 1945.

Fans are hoping the result of the series expansion will be more successful than other recent expansions like J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” trilogy, which came under criticism for making so many changes to the original that it was nearly unrecognizable.

The movies will take nearly a decade to script and make, which is a long time to keep fans stringing along. However, the original "Harry Potter" movies were all hugely popular, even "The Deathly Hallows," which was split into two parts.

Whether fans will continue to be enthralled with the expanding Harry Potter universe will be closely watched by Warner Bros. and other moviemakers eager to capitalize on successful books.
