Actor and staunch gun-control advocate Jim Carrey has withdrawn support for his upcoming movie "Kick-Ass 2" because he thinks the film depicts too much violence.
Carrey, who plays Colonel Stars and Stripes in the superhero action sequel, announced on Twitter Sunday that he would not be backing the movie, which hits theaters August 16.

responded to Carrey's tweets in a lengthy blog post.

"As you may know, Jim [Carrey] is a passionate advocate of gun-control and I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I'm baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn't in the screenplay eighteen months ago," Miller wrote. "Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called 'Kick-Ass 2' really has to do what it says on the tin… Our job as storytellers is to entertain and our toolbox can’t be sabotaged by curtailing the use of guns in an action-movie.
"Ironically, Jim's character in 'Kick-Ass 2' is a Born-Again Christian and the big deal we made of the fact that he refuses to fire a gun is something he told us attracted him to the role in the first place."
This isn't the first time Carrey has been the cause of controversy for his opinions about violence and gun control.
In March, Carrey released a Funny or Die music video called "Cold Dead Hand," which mocked Second Amendment defenders and actor and former National Rifle Association president Charlton Heston.
The title of the song alludes to a 2000 NRA convention speech Heston made, in which he vows, "I'll give you my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands."

The video stirred up Republicans who unleashed their fury on Carrey on Twitter.
