Jill Stein told unhappy Bernie Sanders activists on Tuesday to go green with a vengeance -- as in go over to her Green Party -- while participating at a rally in Philadelphia on the second day of the Democratic National Convention.
Stein, a Massachusetts physician, activist and presumptive Green Party presidential candidate, was addressing staunch Sanders supporters who haven't either been swayed by calls to unify behind Hillary Clinton or been misled that voting for the Green Party could help Donald Trump, according to Philly.com
"Our hearts are with (Sanders), our hearts are with you," Stein told the cheering crowd at what was called a "Bernie or Bust" rally, noted Philly.com. "Whatever happens, you know my campaign is here."
Stein criticized Clinton and the Democratic National Committee for what she called "back stabbing and sabotage," referring obviously to the email scandal that led to the resignation of DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz this week, according to PennLive.com
Wasserman Schultz's left after nearly 20,000 leaked emails were released by Wikileaks that showed efforts by party staffers to undermine Sanders' candidacy for president, according to USA Today
"He may say some bad things, but she's done some bad things," said progressive radio host Tim Black, a Sanders supporter, with the crowd chanting "Jill, not Hill," noted PennLive.com. "Clinton is way more dangerous than Trump. It was Bernie or Bust, and now it's time for bust."
Stein on Tuesday also appeared to reject Democrat calls for unity among progressives when she appeared on the show "Democracy Now"
with former NAACP head and Sanders surrogate Ben Jealous, who was calling for unity.
"(Trump) says extremely despicable, reprehensible things, but at the same time, Hillary Clinton has a track record for doing absolutely horrific things, for expanding wars, in the likes of Libya, for example," Stein said on the show.
"There could hardly be an example of a more catastrophic war, which has been more problematic for increasing the terrorist threats. Finger on the nuclear button? I worry very much about the air war that Hillary Clinton would like to start over Syria with this no-fly zone against a nuclear-armed power in the form of Russia."
Some in the crowd at the Philadelphia rally appeared to leaning toward Stein.
"I still believe that (Clinton) would be better than Trump," Bryan Gallow told Philly.com. "(But) I'm tired of just having to pick between Republican and Democrat."
Black added, according to PennLive.com: "We got to vote for Dr. Jill Stein, because the movement must keep moving. The lesser of two evils is still evil."
