Jerry Maren, who was the last living munchkin from “The Wizard of Oz,” died last week in San Diego at a nursing care facility and was buried over the weekend in Hollywood.

Maren, 98, outlived 123 other little people who starred in 1939’s “The Wizard of Oz” as munchkins who welcomed Dorothy to Oz. Maren was one of the Lollipop Guild trio and gave Dorothy a lollipop in the movie.

According to TMZ, which reported the actor’s death, Maren suffered from dementia and had also had pancreatic cancer in 2016.

Maren had other roles in Hollywood after “The Wizard of Oz,” although the munchkin role was his most prominent. He appeared in “The Twilight Zone,” “Seinfeld,” and “Bewitched,” among others.

“I’ve done so many things in show business, but people say, ‘You were in “The Wizard of Oz”?’ It takes people’s breath away,” Maren said in a 2011 interview with Patch. “But then I realized, ‘Geez, it must have been a hell of a picture, because everyone remembers it everywhere I go.’”

Maren was married to a fellow little person, Elizabeth, who passed away in 2011 at age 69. The couple met at a meeting of the organization Little People of America, according to the Chicago Tribune

Maren’s fans offered their condolences and mourned his loss on Twitter.
