Jennette McCurdy Nickelodeon Feud? 'Sam & Cat' Production Halted

Jennette McCurdy Nickelodeon Feud? 'Sam & Cat' Production Halted

Jennette McCurdy, star of Nickelodeon's "Sam & Cat" series, is feuding with the network that catapulted her to stardom, and now execs have reportedly halted production on the sitcom's second season.

But Nickelodeon officials made no mention of McCurdy or the controversy surrounding last week's Kids' Choice Awards in a statement obtained by Fox News Wednesday.

"We are wrapping up what was an unusually long production cycle of 'Sam & Cat,' and everyone is understandably tired," the unidentified Nickelodeon rep said in the statement. "We are going into our production hiatus next week which will give everyone on the show a much-needed rest."

Rumors have been swirling that the show is in jeopardy ever since McCurdy, 21, failed to show at the Kids’ Choice Awards over the weekend. She later tweeted an explanation: "I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing."

Many online speculated that the "situation" McCurdy was referring to was the network’s reaction to the nearly-naked pictures of her that leaked recently online, but the actress and singer explained that wasn’t the case.

"My previous tweet has nothing to do with pics leaked. oh you guys lol," she posted. "It has to do with how nickelodeon treated me. That's all. Thanks for the love."

Another rumor as to why production was halted stems from the relationship between McCurdy and her "Sam & Cat" costar, Ariana Grande. Variety reported that the two have been fighting lately.

Sources at Nickelodeon, however, attributed the problems to a long, 40-show schedule that is wearing the cast down, Variety noted. Apparently a little over 30 shows are completed, and producers are hoping some time off will calm the tension.
