Jamie Lee Curtis channeled her mother’s iconic shower murder scene from “Psycho” in a photo recreation that the actress published on Instagram Tuesday as a plug for her new TV series, “Scream Queens.”
Curtis, 56, paid tribute to her late mother, actress Janet Leigh, when she posed in the shower, wet hair plastered against her face as she screamed while holding up a photo of her mother in that same infamous pose.
Leigh’s shower scene in the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock thriller “Psycho” helped to cement her celebrity status, and Curtis’ father, Tony Curtis, was also a successful actor.
“My entire life I have refused to step into the shower because it
belongs to my mother,” Curtis told Variety. “I have attempted to step out of the shadow of my parents for a long time.”
But Curtis changed her mind when she was presented with the idea of the recreated “Psycho” scene for the upcoming “Scream Queens” series in which she stars.
“It felt like they’re both gone, and enough time has passed,” Curtis told Variety. “This role has appeared in my life. It’s unexpected and delightful.”
Curtis’ Instagram picture was also published in black and white to further mimic her mother’s shower scene, in which Leigh's character was stabbed to death.
“Just recreated, with help from the amazing crew, a shot by shot of my mother's famous shower scene from Hitchcock's PSYCHO for @screamqueensfox #screamqueens,” Curtis wrote. “Ryan Murphy and co. wrote it into a special episode and it felt right! Honoring the Royal legend that is/was/will always be, Janet Leigh. Thought all fans of the genre would love it!”
“Scream Queens” premieres on Fox on Sept. 22, and the plot follows the murderous escapades at a
university sorority, according to My News LA. During each of the 15 episodes, one more character is killed as the tantalizing clues regarding the murderer’s identity pile up. Curtis plays Dean Cathy Munsch.
