Actor Jake Gyllenhaal may join the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" sequel as he is currently in talks to appear as Marvel villain Mysterio, according to reports.

If the Academy Award-nominated actor is cast in the role, he will join Michael Keaton, who will once again play the role of Vulture, according to Variety.

Also returning for the sequel are Marisa Tomei and Zendaya, as well as Tom Holland as the webslinging Peter Parker. Jon Watts will return as director.

Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are set to produce the film.

If a deal is finalized, this would mark Gyllenhaal’s first foray into comic book fare. However, he was briefly considered for the title role when Toby McGuire, the original onscreen Spider-Man, suffered a back injury on another film.

Holland appeared as Spider-Man in last month's record-breaking "Avengers: Infinity War," which is the fastest film to make $1 billion.

Most Twitter users were on board with Gyllenhaal as Mysterio.
