Jackie Kennedy revealed her inner thoughts about her marriage, religion, and JFK’s death in more than two dozen letters to an Irish priest that will be auctioned in Ireland.

According to The Irish Times, Kennedy's letters are to be sold at auction on June 10 at Sheppard’s Irish Auction House in Durrow, Ireland.

Jackie Kennedy met the Rev. Joseph Leonard on a trip to Ireland in 1950 and wrote him more than two dozen letters between then and 1964, starting when she was 21.

The letters, which were obtained by The Irish Times, detail a short engagement with New York stockbroker John Husted that she broke off before meeting President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in November 1963.

She described the former president in a letter written a year before they were married.
"He's like my father in a way — loves the chase and is bored with the conquest — and once married needs proof he's still attractive, so flirts with other women and resents you," she wrote. "I saw how that nearly killed Mummy."

In a letter after JFK's death, Jackie Kennedy wrote about her grief.

"I think God must have taken Jack to show the world how lost we would be without him — but that is a strange way of thinking to me," she wrote." God will have a bit of explaining to do to me if I ever see him."

Auctioneer Philip Sheppard described the letters as an “unpublished autobiography.”

While many are eager to read the inner thoughts of the private first lady, others see the publication and auction of the letters as invasive and greedy.
