Ivanka Trump may be sitting in the White House at the right hand of her father if reports are true that an office has been penciled in for her in East Wing space traditionally occupied by the first lady. For now, what role she would play from there is still lost in the fog of transition.
News media jumped on the Ivanka White House office story after a Tweet by CNN's Lis Mirando relaying a scoop from CNN's Sara Murray who covered Donald Trump on the campaign trail.
Ivanka Trump previously said she had no intention to take an official position in her father’s administration, but also said she would “not hesitate” to offer her “strong opinions” throughout Trump’s presidential term, according to Newsweek.
According to Newsmax, Ivanka Trump may take on the “traditional first lady role,” instead of Melania Trump, who doesn’t plan on moving into the White House at least until the Trump's son Barron son is finished with school in June.
At one time it appeared that Ivanka Trump and her brothers Eric and Donald, Jr. would be taking over the Trump empire once their father took office, noted the New York Daily News.
However, a tweet posted by Donald Trump on Monday mentioned only his two sons as being involved in the business, leading to speculation that Ivanka's role will be in her father's administration, noted Newsmax.
If Ivanka does get a role at the White House, Politico noted, it could involve working with the climate change issue.
She recently met with Al Gore at Trump Tower in New York City and she was with her father during a meeting with actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who’s an environmental activist, The Daily News noted.
Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner already had plans to move to Washington sometime next year.
Trump has said he’d like to have them both in his administration at some capacity.
“They’re both very talented people,” Trump said during a Fox News interview on Sunday. “I would love to be able to have them involved.”
“If you look at Ivanka – she’s so strongly, as you know, into the women’s issues and childcare….Nobody could do better than her,” Trump added.
Ivanka Trump was heavily involved in Trump’s campaign. She spoke at the Republican National Convention back in July, focusing on “pay equity and parental leave.”
“She is playing a critical role in being able to have issues that moderate and liberal women care about – and creating a bridge to the other side,” said a source close to Ivanka.
Despite these reports though, a spokesman for Trump has called these claims “false,” adding that “no decisions regarding Ivanka’s involvement have been made,” said the Daily News.
