A wanted Italian mob boss was arrested after being found hiding behind a kitchen  cupboard at his home.

Antonio Pelle was found at his home in Reggio Calabria in Southern Italy on Wednesday, CNN reported. Italian State Police said Pelle was in a hole cut into the walls of his house when they found him.

A video released by police shows Pelle emerging from behind a kitchen cupboard as he grimaces at them. According to police, the hidden room had a small mattress, a pillow, toilet paper and a portable fan.

According to Italian news agency ANSA, Pelle, also known as “Mamma,” has been listed among Italy’s 100 most dangerous fugitives since 2011, after he escaped from a hospital bed following an arrest that same year, CNN noted.

The mob boss had been hiding in his home ever since his escape five years ago, SpreadIt noted.

Pelle was known as a boss in the “Ndrangheta mafia,” in 2014. The group was linked to drug trafficking in South and Central America, Canada and the United States, according to Italian officials.

In 2007, Pelle and his group were involved in an execution-style killing that left six men dead in the German city of Duisburg, CNN noted.

The 54-year-old was arrested back in 2008 and sentenced to 20 years in prison for a laundry list of crimes, including arms and drug trafficking, SpreadIt noted. He was taken to a hospital in Locri after struggling with anorexia in 2011, and that’s where he ultimately made his escape.

Police commander Francesco Ratta released a statement after Wednesday’s arrest, saying “Fifty of us searched the two-story villa where Pelle had always lived, but it took a very attentive eye to discover his hiding place.”

Pelle has been on the run since 2011, and he could serve up to 20 years in jail for drug trafficking and for being affiliated with a mafia group.
