iPhone sales topped 10 million units over the weekend, setting a new company record in the first three days of sales that began Friday.

"Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier," CEO Tim Cook said in a company press release.

"We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible."

According to CNN Money, the new record surpasses last year's first three days of sales for the iPhone 5S and 5C by 1 million units.

The two new iPhone models, the 6 and 6 Plus, went on sale in 10 regions on Friday, including the U.S. but excluding one of the biggest markets, China, due to regulatory hurdles. Analysts were originally worried that the absence of a Chinese launch would hurt sales, but that worry was put to rest with the new sales record.

"Those analysts are now likely to boost their revenue and earnings estimates for Apple's fourth quarter, since all iPhones shipped before next Tuesday will be included in that period," wrote CNBC.

Apple plans to launch the phones in 20 additional countries this coming Friday, and 115 countries by the end of the year.

The new iPhones are available through AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, and additional carriers, and resellers including Best Buy, Radio Shack, Target, and Walmart.

Shares of Apple stock have risen by roughly a third over the past five months, The Wall Street Journal reported.
