'Interview' Salary Leak Shows Seth Rogen Making More Than James Franco

The hackers who stole information from Sony Pictures released the salaries paid to actors on “The Interview,” revealing that Seth Rogen is making $8.4 million plus a percentage of back-end profits.

Rogen, in addition to acting in the movie, is a producer, director, and writer, which may account for why his salary topped that of his co-star James Franco, who is getting $6.5 million, TMZ said.

The hackers, whom a Sony investigation linked to a North Korean group known as DarkSeoul, posted Sony’s confidential data, including thousands of Social Security numbers and other employee information online this week.

There has been speculation that the data attack is tied to “The Interview,” which is a comedy about North Korea. The hackers identified themselves as Guardians of Peace, Engadget said. Some media report that Sony denies any North Korean ties to the hack.

In June, North Korea promised “merciless retaliation” over the movie, which involves an assassination plot of the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un.

“Making and releasing a movie on a plot to hurt our top-level leadership is the most blatant act of terrorism and war and will absolutely not be tolerated," a North Korean spokesman said. "If the U.S. administration allows and defends the showing of the film, a merciless counter-measure will be taken."

In addition to spilling sensitive employee information, including the salaries of top Sony execs, the hackers also put five Sony movies online at file-sharing websites, letting people download them for free. Add in the Social Security numbers and scripts for TV shows that haven’t been aired yet, and the hackers revealed a lot of confidential information.

“That’s really, really sensitive stuff, particularly for high-profile people,” Zachary K. Goldman, executive director of the Center on Law and Security at New York University’s School of Law, told Bloomberg News. “Think of all the mayhem you could cause with that.”

The movie is scheduled to be in theaters Dec. 25.
