The International House of Burgers, so that's what IHOb stands for. But it’s all just pretend, just for marketing’s sake, confirmed the CEO of IHOP, which for years was known as International House of Pancakes.

Last week IHOP said it was changing its name to IHOb but left customers guessing what the "b" stood for.

If you guessed bad marketing you were part way right. Some on social media correctly guessed “burgers,” while others threw out “brunch” and “breakfast.” Then there was "breasts" and "bees." The comments kept pouring in.

Done teasing us, the chain posted the full faux name change on Twitter on Monday.

In celebration of flipping burgers instead of flapjacks, and in answer to Lydia S. in Los Angeles who proved the perfect foil, IHOP aka IHOb revealed several burger options have been added to its menu.

"Everyone knows that IHOP makes world-famous pancakes so we felt like the best way to convince them that we are as serious about our new line of Ultimate Steakburgers as we are about our pancakes, was to change our name to IHOb," said Brad Haley, the chain’s chief marketing officer, according to CNBC.

"The big opportunity for the IHOb brand is to develop our lunch and dinner business,” Haley said, as USA Today picked up the story.

"Burgers are the most consumed entree item for men, women and children in America," he said. "It made sense to start with burgers."

So, is the new name permanent?

Darren Rebelez, president of IHOP, told CNN the restaurant chain would be keeping its name as IHOP but wanted customers to know that it was taking its burgers as seriously as its pancakes.

And while some locations were getting new signage, Rebelez said the majority of the nearly 1,800 other locations will still go by IHOP.
