Police are investigating the murder of a 29-year-old Instagram model, who was strangled and then dumped into a canal days after she flew to Mexico. Jalisco State Attorney General Octavio Solis has revealed that investigators are pursuing several leads and going through surveillance footage recovered in hopes of finding the person responsible for killing Adriana Murrieta, according to Daily Mail.
The social media influencer was last seen on Nov. 1, when surveillance footage caught her arriving on a flight from Culiacan, Sinaloa, and then getting into a car, Solis revealed Thursday. Murrieta's body was found on Nov. 2 in a canal in Santa Cruz del Valle.
The model reportedly died from strangulation. Investigators are looking into whether cartels were involved in the killing.
Murrieta's sister, Freya, announced the death in a statement via The Sun.
"More than anyone, we would have liked to share a different or less painful ending for our loved ones," she said. "We ask for a little respect and caution for us. Thank you all for worrying and being aware, we know perfectly what Adriana meant in the lives of many."
Murrieta had been living in Guadalajara for three years. She had cultivated over 61,000 followers on Instagram and was an advocate and seller of CBD supplements. She often shared photos of travel, fashion, and her family. Murrieta’s last post, a video she filmed of herself wearing a black dress and heels, was posted three days before she was reported missing.
