Group Will Challenge lllegal Alien Tuition Ruling

By    |   Monday, 29 Aug 2011 10:42 AM

Judicial Watch plans to appeal the dismissal of its lawsuit against a Maryland college for providing discounted tuitions to illegal immigrants, saying the decision ignores the rights of citizens “to challenge the illegal expenditure of taxpayer funds.”

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said Monday the case against Montgomery College would be appealed because Maryland taxpayers “should not have to bear the burden of paying for the cost of educating illegal aliens.

“Especially in this time of extreme financial hardship, Montgomery College’s illegal alien tuition policy, besides being contrary to law, is a waste of precious taxpayer resources,” Fitton said. “Importantly, the court decision did not find that the college’s policy was legal.”

Judicial Watch argued in its lawsuit filed in the Circuit Court of Montgomery County that the college’s tuition policy violates both state and federal law, and places “a substantial financial burden” on taxpayers “who subsidize the cost of students attending the community college.”

Judicial Watch said the college lost $5.8 million between 2006 and 2009 because of discounted tuition fees.
