America has produced some of the most iconic brands in the world. Crayola crayons, Jack Daniel's whiskey and even the original metal slinky come with the "made in America" stamp, but there also are dozens of other iconic U.S. brands that are not actually made in the country, as Cheapism.com noted in a report released Thursday. Here are 8 of them:

1. Barbie- This doll has played a vital role in the lives of countless young girls across the globe. Barbie is the ultimate all-American toy manufactured by Mattel, which has outsourced all its production to China after shuttering its last factory in the U.S. back in 2002.

2. Schwinn - The top bicycle brand was produced by a local company in Chicago until 1991, when it delegated its manufacturing overseas. The company was later sold to Pacific Cycle, which has its bicycles made in China and Taiwan.

3. Etch A Sketch- The original concept for this iconic toy was created in France and later sold to Ohio Art Co., which manufactured Etch a Sketch locally until 2000 when, in an effort to save money, it exported production to China.

4. Samsonite- This brand is one of the leading manufacturers of luggage. Originally founded in Denver, the company's main branch is now located in Europe and the bulk of its manufacturing is done in Asia.

5. G.I. Joe- Like Barbie, the iconic G.I. Joe action figure has long been associated with the U.S. and its armed forces but the toy's manufacturer, Hasbro, uses factories in Asia for production.

6. Monopoly- This U.S. board game, invented in 1903, took the world by storm and although it was originally a proudly American concept, manufacturing was sent over to Ireland in 1991, after the founding company Parker Bros was acquired by Hasbro.

7. American Girl- Don’t let the name of this iconic 18-inch doll fool you -- the toy has been manufactured in Germany for over 25 years. It makes financial sense to outsource the costly production of American Girl.

8. Gerber- Gerber baby food, which was originally founded in Michigan, is hailed as one of the top baby brands. The product has been in the lives of millions of Americans,  but it is no longer made in the U.S. It has been manufactured overseas since 1994 when the company first merged with Novartis, a Swiss pharmaceutical company.
