Ichiro's Fake Mustache Gets Him Into Mariners Off-Limits Dugout

Ichiro Suzuki's fake mustache recently got him access into the Mariners off-limits dugout, an area reserved for coaches and players, not semi-retired pros working a front office role.

Photos of a "stranger" hanging out in the Mariners dugout during the first few innings of the M’s-Yankees game have been doing the rounds online but the mysterious mustached man wearing dark shades and a hoodie has been identified as Suzuki, NBC News noted.

The disguise obviously failed to do its job. By the second inning Suzuki was gone again.

The not-quite-retired MLB outfielder moved from the field to the Seattle Mariners front office in May.

The move ultimately barred him from making a return to the team's active roster for 2018, SB Nation noted.

Major League Baseball rules prohibit Suzuki from being in the dugout during games, the New York Post noted.

Although he participates in pregame activities such as drills and batting practice, as soon as games begin he is required to leave the bench and go to the clubhouse.

Suzuki previously admitted he was going to miss being on the field with the other players and even joked that he could not promise he would not "put on a beard and glasses and be like Bobby Valentine and be in the dugout," NBC News said.

He stayed true to his promise and even drew praise from Valentine, who said he never would have known it was Suzuki.

It has to mean something if you can fool the man who famously performed a similar stunt in 1999 after an ejection and was suspended for two games and fined $5,000.
