Homeless Man Saves Children From Las Vegas Apartment Fire

By    |   Monday, 04 December 2017 03:49 PM

A homeless man saved two small children from a burning apartment in Las Vegas on Friday.

Anival Angulo, 36, was walking in the eastern Las Vegas neighborhood around 11:30 a.m. when he saw smoke coming through a locked security door and heard the children crying, ABC News reported.

Angulo bent the steel bars of the locked door and caused the deadbolt to open, ABC reported. The 3-year-old reportedly ran out and hugged his waist, but Angulo saw the baby’s leg through the smoke and pulled him out as well.

“I wrapped up the babies and pulled them out,” Angulo told KSNV. “I knew I had to get them out.”

The children suffered minor smoke inhalation but are expected to be fine, KSNV reported.

“It’s obvious if this person hadn’t been there, these children could have been burned or may have been killed in the fire,” firefighter Tim Szymanski told KSNV.

The children’s grandfather was in a bedroom separated from the children when the fire started in a pan of grease on the stove, ABC reported. The fire, which was under control in about 10 minutes, was ruled accidental, and the Red Cross is assisting those left without a home.

Twitter users praised Angulo and wondered if any fundraising had been done to help him with his housing situation.
