Holly Bobo's Skull Found by Hunters in Tennessee Woods

By    |   Tuesday, 09 Sep 2014 07:06 AM

The skull of Holly Bobo, a 20-year-old Tennessee nursing student missing since 2011, was found Sunday in the woods near a logging road in Decatur County.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's forensic lab in Memphis confirmed Monday that the remains were Bobo's after hunters stumbled onto the skull Sunday morning, according to the Jackson Sun.

The newspaper previously reported that two men, Zach Adams and Jason Autry, were indicted for allegedly kidnapping and murdering Bobo but the body remained missing.

Decatur County district attorney general Matt Stowe told WREG-TV that with the body the case can move forward without any doubt.

"Everyone knows how serious the charges are and how important it is to get to the truth," Stowe said a news conference. "And we will get to the truth. … You can delay justice, but you can’t deny it."

Decatur County Sheriff Keith Byrd told WJHL-TV Sunday that the Bobo family was "doing well under the circumstances" but would not make a statement about the discovery of their daughter until Tuesday.

"It was partially buried in leaves, but you could see enough of it to tell that it was indeed a human skull," Byrd told KJHL-TV. "There wasn't anything there but bone. … They had already come to grips with the idea she was dead, but tonight gave them some closure, it gave the whole community closure, the innocence of our community was forever lost when Holly was abducted."

Stowe told the Jackson Sun that it has not been determined yet if his office will seek death penalty charges in the Bobo case but hopes to have some clarification on that issue within the coming weeks.

"We will be making a decision sometime in the next couple of weeks in conjunction with the Bobo family," Stowe told the newspaper. "Right now, in the meantime, we have the finest experts we can find and that are available. There are so many people working on this case right now that it would boggle the mind, and nobody is sleeping, nobody needs to be told what to do in this case."
