A helicopter crash into the Pennsylvania woods Saturday night killed five people, one of them a child.

The Associated Press reported that the pilot apparently contacted the tower and said he was losing altitude and would try to make it to another airfield. The helicopter then went off radar.

The names of those killed have not been released pending notification of relatives. The Huffington Post said there were apparently a father and a son, a father and daughter, and the pilot on board.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday that the helicopter took off from a small airfield, the Tri Cities Airport, Endicott, N.Y. The airport manager said the helicopter refueled at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, according to records, but he also said the helicopter must have returned to pick up passengers later, The Huffington Post reported.

The manager, Gerald Corprew, said he left the airport at 7 p.m. and a man and his son were there waiting to be picked up. That man and son apparently were killed in the crash, Corprew told the Post.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash. Although that will take some time, the area was experiencing severe thunderstorms when the crash occurred.

Rough weather in the area made it tough to find the site where the helicopter crashed, the Huffington Post reported. The site wasn’t found until 2 p.m. Sunday.
