Harriet's Eaglets Hatch Before Our Eyes

Harriet's eaglets hatched before the eyes of thousands of viewers this week in Fort Myers, Florida as cameras hidden above her nest captured the births.

Eaglet "E11" hatched at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday, which was live streamed by Dick Pritchett Real Estate, creating an Internet buzz, NBC News reported. Harriet's first eaglet, "E10," hatched Tuesday night.

"We're really excited, it's great that they will be almost 24 hours apart in age together and we'll watch over the next couple of days and weeks as they grow and hopefully thrive," said Ginnie Pritchett McSpadden, whose family owns the property where the birds nest, per NBC News.

Pritchett McSpadden said the hatching process started for the first egg around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with the first shell break. A pip in the second egg was visible at about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, she told NBC News.

Millions have tuned into the live stream over the years to watch Harriet, NBC News said. Pritchett McSpadden said the eaglets will be live-streamed for the next few months.

"The next five, 10 and 15 days are going to be really exciting because these eaglets grow so fast, so there's so much for people to watch," Pritchett McSpadden said.

The Pritchett website said the eagle pair of Ozzie and Harriet had made the nest their home since 2006. After Ozzie died in the early fall of 2015, Harriet and M15 bonded in late fall of 2015 and the eaglet hatching marks the second season for the mated pair.

Harriet and M15 rebuilt their nest in September after it had deteriorated and by November was in good enough shape for Harriet to lay two eggs.

The website said the closest camera to the eagles is equipped with night vision, or infrared light, which is invisible to the naked eye. The eagles do not see any light and remain undisturbed, according to the website.
