Hollywood star Hank Garrett is sharing some of the most memorable moments of his six-decade career. The actor has appeared in dozens of films and TV series and during that time he has done and seen it all but one experience that he will never forget is breaking Robert Redford's nose.

Speaking with Fox News in an interview published Monday, Garrett explained that he and Redford were filming a fighting scene for the 1975 political thriller "Three Days of the Condor" when the incident occurred.

"We had this fight where there was mineral oil all over the floor," he explained. "I’m supposed to do this simple sweep over my knee. He slips all over the oil and came at me headfirst. And I came around with my elbow. The next thing you know, I end up hitting him right in the nose with my elbow. My reaction was 'Oh dear God, no.' There’s blood coming out of his nose. I’m thinking it’s all over for me, but we continued from there."

Later that day Redford called Garrett to tell him his nose was broken and Garett recalled thinking his career was over. To his relief, Redford was understanding about the ordeal.

"I blurted out 'Oh God, I’m never going to work again!' Then he goes, 'Oh don’t worry about it, my nose has been broken so many times, it doesn’t mean anything,'" Garrett said. "We became pals from there. And to this day, I’m still asked about that fight scene! He’s just an incredible guy to work with and very humble. And how do I thank him? By breaking his nose!"

During the interview, Garrett also recalled an evening he spent with Audrey Hepburn. He had been asked to escort an actress as a bodyguard to a fundraising gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Driving up to the mansion, he did not know what to expect. He was shocked to discover he was escorting Hepburn.

"The door opens and my jaw drops," he said. "I couldn’t believe it at first, but it was her. She said, 'Hi, I’m Audrey' with this beaming smile. At that moment, I forgot to speak."

Upon arrival, Garrett was told to stand outside with the other chauffeurs and bodyguards but Hepburn insisted he accompanies her into the venue.

"So I walk in with her. I was going to stand in the back, but she goes, 'Hank, come sit next to me,'" he noted. "I don’t think I stopped smiling the entire evening. She was so poise, sweet, gracious — everything you can imagine about Audrey Hepburn and more."

Last year Garrett released a memoir titled "From Harlem Hoodlum to Hollywood Heavyweight," where he wrote of growing up as a "tough guy" in a Harlem neighborhood rife with street violence. In an interview with Beaver County Times last year, Garrett said it was Sammy Davis Jr. who helped him turn his life around.

"My parents were fruit and vegetable peddlers with a pushcart and had little time for me, so I ended up living off the street and was always in trouble as a kid," he said. "Still, my mother was worried and one day when I was 12 a friend of hers, Willie Bryant, took me to the Apollo Theater in Harlem."

It was there that Garrett met Davis, who convinced him that life as a tough guy would only land him into trouble. Now Garrett is hoping his story will inspire children in similar situations.

"I have seen so much death," he told Fox News. "I wanted to make a difference. And I strongly believe God gave me this great opportunity to lead the life I have lived. And I wouldn’t have embarked on that journey without Sammy Davis Jr., my angel. He changed my life, changed my thoughts."
