A Washington grandmother foiled a school shooting by giving police her grandson's journal, which had detailed plans to shoot students and detonate homemade bombs.

Everett, Washington, police arrested 18-year-old Joshua Alexander O'Connor on Tuesday at ACES High School and charged him with attempted murder and other charges, CBS News reported.

O'Connor's grandmother called 911 after finding the journal and showed officers who came to the home the journal that contained the plans, police said, CBS News reported. Along with instructions for making pressure-cooker bombs and placing them for maximum casualties, the journal also contained writings by O'Connor about his plans.

"I need to make this count," the journal reportedly said, CBS News reported. "I've been reviewing many mass shootings/bombings (and attempted bombings) I'm learning from past shooters/bombers mistakes."

"I'm preparing myself for the school shooting. I can't wait," O'Connor continued, CBS News reported. "My aim has gotten much more accurate. . . .I can't wait to walk into that class and blow all those [expletive]s away."

He also reportedly wrote that he wanted to get "the biggest fatality number I possibly can," CBS reported.

Detectives found a rifle and inert grenades in a search at the grandmother's house. A knife and marijuana were found on O'Connor's person when he was arrested at the school, USA Today reported.

Spokesman for the Mukilteo School District Andy Muntz said that O'Connor had not been suspected by the district of any wrong behavior and that the district was grateful to his grandmother for turning him in, USA Today reported.

"It really speaks to the importance of if you see something or hear something to notify the authorities. That's what she did. It could well have saved many, many lives including her grandson's life," Muntz said, USA Today reported.

The arrest came one day before a school shooting took place at Parkland High School in Florida in which 17 people were killed and 15 more injured, CBS reported.
