It’s not dramatic, but the Google logo is sporting a fresher look.

The web giant revealed the tweaked logo for its homepage Thursday. Search engines Yahoo and Bing recently unveiled new logos as well.

Google "refined the color palette and letter shapes of the Google logo," the tech company’s official Google Search blog post said.

The six letters in the logo now appear flatter and less bright.

The makeover is part of an updated Google Bar, which includes a new app launcher for popular apps such as Gmail, News, YouTube, Maps, Search, and more.

The new navigation bar is designed to better streamline use of products across multiple devices. Whether checking Gmail on a tablet or editing your Calendar via your phone, the redesign aims to provide a cohesive experience.

"Getting around Google should be seamless, and once you're inside an app, you don't want any distractions,” wrote Eddie Kessler, tech lead/manager at Google, on the blog.

“We'll be rolling out this update across most Google products over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out and let us know your thoughts,” said Kessler.

Google also released a new version of its Chrome Web browser for Apple's iOS 7 to make it easier to switch between Chrome and other Google apps on your phone.

Commenters on a Mashable article didn't see much to get excited about in the new logo design.

“Flatter is generally better for logos, but Google's logo has always been horrible from a design standpoint,” wrote one observer. “The type is awful, the lines lack fluidity and harmony, and the colors are so garish as to be offensive. So one of the lessons to be learned is that visual beauty is only one aspect of a successful brand image.”

Wrote another: “Oh, Apple made flat icons, let's go flat too! How innovative! *sigh.”
