In the home opener of the Las Vegas Golden Knights' inaugural NHL season Tuesday night, the only ad that will be visible along the boards at T-Mobile Arena will read #VegasStrong, as a way to honor victims of the recent shooting in Las Vegas by a lone gunman.

The Golden Knights have been proponents of the "Vegas Strong" sentiment since the shooting, and they tweeted their plan for Tuesday’s game to fans so they would know what to expect.

“It was the right thing to do,” Golden Knights President Kerry Bubolz told USA Today.

Their opponent, the Arizona Coyotes, actually got the first look at the rink today as they prepared for Tuesday's game. The Golden Knights players, who practice at another facility, won’t get to see it until warm-ups, USA Today reported.

“It’s going to be pretty emotional out there for the puck drop,” Coyotes player Clayton Keller told USA Today.

Keller tweeted “even though we’re now rivals, we are #VegasStrong.”

At an away game against the Dallas Stars last week, the Stars players lined up on the same blue line as the Knights to show solidarity with them in the wake of the Oct. 1 shooting that left 59 dead including the shooter, who turned the gun on himself as authorities approached, CBS Sports reported.

In another sign of solidarity, the Arizona Coyotes tweeted their plans to honor the victims during the game.

The Golden Knights are 2-0 going into their home opener Tuesday night, and fans have texted them that their success is a pleasant distraction from the sadness of the past week-plus after the shooting, USA Today reported.

Twitter user Beck encapsulated the general sentiment about the new team in his tweet.
