"Glee" will almost certainly be ending after next year’s Season 6, show producers and others say.

“I would not anticipate it goes beyond two more seasons,” Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly said on Thursday, according to TV Line. "Never say never, but there two very clear (story) arcs to get to that end and conclude. If we discover a new crop of kids and there’s some breakout we like … (but) right now, we’re thinking two seasons.”

Fox had ordered Seasons 5 and 6 of "Glee" in April.

Series co-creator Michael Murphy was more definitive, saying next year will be the show’s final season.

The Huffington Post said producers initially wanted to end with a storyline involving Cory Monteith and Lea Michele’s characters. But Monteith died of a drug and alcohol overdose in July, forcing a change in the planned ending.

An emotion-packed Monteith tribute captured 7.4 million viewers and a 2.8 rating among adults 18 to 49, the best numbers so far this season.

Opinions on Twitter about the beginning of the end varied.

"Glee" is set in Lima, Ohio’s fictional William McKinley High School. It follows the exploits of a reconstituted glee club known as New Directions, focusing on its singers who deal with a variety of teenage issues as it strives to become a competitive team. The pilot was broadcast in May of 2009, and the show generated a huge following, though ratings have been down in recent years.

The show has captured a number of Emmy and Golden Globe awards.
