A private passenger jet crashed in a residential area of the French Alps near the Swiss border Monday, killing two people on board and severely injuring a young girl who survived and was later pulled from the wreckage.

The PRM1 twin-engine corporate jet went down shortly after taking off from a small airport in Annemasse, in southeastern France, and crash-landed in a farmyard not far from Geneva, officials told the Global Post. No injuries were reported by anyone on the ground.

"[The plane] hit the roof of a first house before it crashed in the yard of a neighboring house," state official Pierre Molager told Reuters.

Police said the pilot, a man around age 50, was killed and a 15-year-old girl who said she was his daughter was pulled from the wreckage with multiple pelvic fractures.

The cause of the accident and the identity of the second person who died were not clear.

The crash is just one in a string of recent incidents involving smaller aircraft.

On Sunday, a small plane crash killed four people in New Mexico. High winds are believed to be at fault for the incident, in which the family of four passed away.

In January, a French-Moroccan family was killed when their private plane crashed in the Alps. Everyone on board, a couple and their three children, died after the plane crashed into a hill shortly after takeoff. The cause of the accident has not yet been discovered, but officials said the plane was never able to climb to altitude.
