Giraffe Picture: Riddle Game Behind Facebook Profile Photo Changes

By    |   Monday, 28 October 2013 02:49 PM

Either all your Facebook friends have suddenly developed long necks and big eyes with a distinctly giraffe feel or they failed at playing a popular riddle game going around social media.

The Facebook post challenges people to solve the riddle and, if they fail, they must replace their profile picture with one of a giraffe. The riddle seems easy on the surface: “3:00 am, the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors. It is your parents and they are there for breakfast. You have strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese. What is the first thing you open?”

But given the number of giraffes showing up on Facebook, the first answer you think of is probably not the right one. However, there are apparently some who are challenging the answer. A Chicago Tribune story about the riddle and the sudden popularity of Facebook giraffes tells answer, but updated later to say that many believe it’s actually not right.

The fun riddle doesn’t seem to be tied to anything, the Tribune reports: no protests, causes or any underlying messages.

While the Tribune said it appears some people are getting a little sick of giraffes and riddles, people are still taking the time to comment on the story. Wrote Barbie Nickels Anderson, “someones at my door at 3am the first thing I open is my gun case! LOL.”

Others are arguing over the top two answers, insisting on one or another, while others are just tired of the game.
