Gillespie: Obama's Leadership ‘Hostile to Job Creators'

By    |   Sunday, 03 June 2012 10:51 AM EDT

President Obama’s policies are “hostile to job creators” and riddled with excessive regulations and mandates, according to Ed Gillespie, senior adviser to Mitt Romney.

“This is a hostile environment for job creation in our economy, and that’s why, frankly, it adds a sense of urgency in terms of this year’s election to be able to turn things around, because the only thing that’s going to change it are changing the policies, and that means changing the person in the White House,” Gillespie said on “Fox News Sunday.” “The stimulus bill and healthcare bill and the Dodd-Frank excessive regulations are a part of what’s stifling our economy today.”

Gillespie lambasted Obama for lack of leadership, describing it as “vacant” and “absent” during tough economic times.
“You don’t see President Obama,” he said. “All he does, seemingly, is campaign and go to fundraisers. Where is his leadership on this?”

Regarding Romney’s record as governor, Gillespie argued with host Chris Matthews over Massachusetts’ unemployment numbers during the four years Romney was in office.

Gillespie said the state ranked 30th in the nation at the end of Romney’s term, as opposed to 47th. Gillespie said Romney not only saw the state’s unemployment rate decrease but also saw a $5,500 increase in annual income for the average family in Massachusetts.

“We’re proud to contrast that with President Obama,” Gillespie said.
