Gigi Jordan, a former pharmaceutical executive and Manhattan socialite, told prosecutors she killed her 8-year-old autistic son with a lethal drug concoction after he'd proposed a suicide pact, but tried to save him at the last minute.

Jordan said as much during two days of testimony on Wednesday and Thursday, weeping throughout, CBS New York reported.

"Miss Jordan, did you give yourself and your son an amount of drugs that you believed would take your life and his?" defense lawyer Allen Brenner asked Jordan in the courtroom.

"Yes, I did," she replied.

During her testimony, Jordan described the scene that unfolded at the posh Peninsula Hotel in Manhattan on January 26, 2010. She said that she and her son were on the run from two abusive ex-husbands, and that he told her he wished for them to die.

"Let’s just get out while we can. We're going to die anyway let’s do it ourselves instead of them," she claimed little Jude Mirra typed into her Blackberry phone.

"We need to leave in a way we want to, not their way. Get the pills and try to do it . . . it’s not murder . . . I think if you're doing it to save me from them it's ok," he allegedly wrote, begging his mother for a mercy killing.

The boy was not known to have had the ability to write or even speak because of his autism, and Jude's teacher had earlier testified as much. Nonetheless, Jordan alleged a narrative that painted herself as a victim of circumstance.

The New York Post reported that Jordan said her ex-husband, Raymond Mirra, Jude's adoptive father, threatened to kill her after she found out he swindled her out of millions. She also testified that Jude had told her Mirra had sexual abused him.

"One way or the other Ray was going to kill me or get rid of me somehow and I didn’t know what would happen to Jude," she said from the stand. "I felt numb, defeated, I felt like it was over, it was done. There was nothing I could do."

That's when she decided she would kill herself and her son with pills, as he allegedly proposed. Soon after administering them, however, she changed her mind, and tried to save young Jude, she said.

"I had a big surge of adrenaline. My heart was pounding, I raced over to him," she explained. "I grabbed him off the bed and put him on the floor and I was crying and calling 'Jude! Jude! Jude!' and I attempted to do CPR on him."

On Feb. 5, Jude's body was discovered on the bed of the hotel room. Jordan said she was lying on the floor, groggy from having taken pills that failed to kill her.

Jordan is charged with second-degree murder, but is seeking a manslaughter charge instead.
